Some Websites contain large amounts of unstructured content, in a media repository for example. In these situations, Tagging & Metadata are important tools which help visitors not only find the right information, but also create automated overviews very easily, the latest 5 news items for example or the 5 most popular articles about a specific subject. Predefined sets of metadata are also available within the GX WebManager Enterprise Web Content Management System.
The Media Repository is a central storage for content of different formats ( images, articles, downloads, Flash files, multimedia objects, and web pages). This content is directly maintained in the Media Repository.
Media Repository content can be placed on a page using the overview elements media list and media overview. Using a media list element, individual objects from the Media Repository are selected and presented in an overview. Using a media overview element, a set of objects from the Media Repository will automatically appear in overviews, provided these objects meet certain criteria. Media overview elements are dynamic: If new content is added to the Media Repository, it will automatically be selected and presented by a media overview element if it meets the specified criteria.
The GX WebManager Media Repository is a central storage for different media formats (images, articles, downloads, Flash files, multimedia objects, and web pages). The media item and its meta data are directly maintained in the Media Repository. The Media Item API allows you to define new types for the Media Repository. In most cases, the new type will be based on a standard Media Repository format with added entry options for additional specific (meta) data.
Using the ObjectManager, Flash, Image, and Download (documents, PDFs, etc.) object types can be saved and maintained centrally. Using the ObjectManager’s user interface, objects can be added, and generic meta data (e.g., keywords, status, and publication date) as well as specific meta data (e.g., the size of an image, the author of a file to be downloaded, etc) can be added. Also, images can be resized to adjustable default formats.
Using GX WebTV, it is possible to distribute videos based on a Multi Channel concept. The GX WebTV channel presentation offers functionality for presenting your video content across a variety of channels (for example: web, mobile or narrowcasting) each with its specific technical characteristics, metadata and presentation layer. The component is organized separately per channel, allowing you to offer different quality and resolution versions of videos depending on the desired output device. Relevant metadata can either be inherited from different channels when relevant or they can be overruled by a channel specific interpretation, guaranteeing maximum efficiency for editors of video metadata. The framework is extensible by default so custom channels can implemented and be plugged in to the framework during runtime.
The GX WebTV Component bundle allows the metadata framework to deliver video-based content integrated within the standard GX WebManager Media Repository (a central warehouse for various multimedia types), including the GX WebTV Video Media Item media type. This specific type can be used to annotate basic metadata and manage, upload or separate video objects as well integrate live streams on distributed network locations. The GX WebTV Video Media Item contains a standard depot of relevant settings and metadata for videos.
This functionality allows the user to publish pages and to incorporate these pages into various overviews to be compiled by the editor (page collections). You can create, for example,, dynamic archives. Using this component, overviews of pages can be generated. The following three default filters are available: an age filter, a label filter, and a date filter.
Best combined with: RSS Syndication & Aggregation
The GX WebTV Metadata framework allows the developer to define a framework in order to construct a new set of metadata. Sometimes an adaptation of the standard package is desired in order to create a customized metadata set for a GX WebTV Video Media Item. This allows a more granular and detailed view of your content.
This TV Program Metadata package is a predefined metadata set with “out-of-the-box” fields. These fields allow editors to manage TV programs within GW WebTV.
This Package is another predefined set of Metadata for GX WebTV which allows managing Sports programs such as football games in great detail.
