Some of the basic questions in Web Content Management are: 'How do I maintain large amounts of content and keep it up to date? How will the content stay in sync between the different output channels? How can I make sure it is presented the right way and on the correct page(s) without mistakes?' In GX WebManager, Content Authoring & Transformation is the category of features that deals with these themes.
Using the ObjectManager, Flash, Image, and Download (documents, PDFs, etc.) object types can be saved and maintained centrally. Using the ObjectManager’s user interface, objects can be added, and generic meta data (e.g., keywords, status, and publication date) as well as specific meta data (e.g., the size of an image, the author of a file to be downloaded, etc) can be added. Also, images can be resized to adjustable default formats.
With GX WebManager, it is possible to publish information quickly and flexibly on the web (Internet, intranet, and extranet) without any technical conversion required. Within the system, layout, content, and structure are functionally separated. The system is completely managed using a web browser. Content Management - Basic consists of inline editing (layout), preview, WYSIWYG, adding and deleting pages, publishing text, images, anchors, downloads, external/internal links, lists, and tables. A limited number of pre-defined page templates are provided.

The additional Content Management – Advanced package offers editors extensive facilities for keeping the website accurate, up to date, and complete. This component offers an extensive web interface (preview/layout/editor functionality). It also facilitates redirects, moving pages, setting date and time for publication and expiration, using the workflow to assign authorizations to users for specific status changes for specific (groups of) pages, defining basic settings for (groups of) pages, assigning predefined presentation variants to (groups of) pages, using list elements, and defining link models.

The sitemap offers a schematic overview of links to the contents of a website so visitors can quickly find the information they are seeking. GX WebManager’s Sitemap component generates a sitemap automatically and in real time. Expired pages (based on dates and status), and deleted pages are not part of the overview.
The Calendars component offers the opportunity to create overviews of future activities/events. These are maintained centrally. Each event is active for a specified period. Using a calendar overview element, an overview of current events can be shown on a page. Each event has a title and a description, and is assigned to one or more categories. When visitors click the title, the detail page of that event is shown.
GX WebManager offers Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that can be maintained centrally. Using the FAQ module, questions and answers can be maintained systematically through categorization. The categories can also be maintained. Once the question-and answer sets are categorized, they can be placed on a page and accessed directly from a selected category. The Search & Retrieve component allows the website visitor to search the FAQs and answers.
The Microsoft Office Connector in GX WebManager allows the editor to import any content (pages, tables, pictures) from MS Word, Excel or other Office applications into GX WebManager. Content can be imported as pages but also as custom content types. The layout used in Office documents, (Heading 1, an image, or a list, for example), can be converted into the design as defined within the website.
The employee directory is a digital directory where every person can have a searchable personal space on the Website. Information about the department, function, a photo, contact information, etc., can be saved in the employee directory. A central management module is available for adding and maintaining this data.
Using the spelling checker, editors in GX WebManager can check text for spelling errors. By default, text can be checked in English and Dutch. If desired, extra languages can be added. New words and terms can also be added.
Within GX WebManager, spelling can be checked in the following components: pages, page sections, page models, Media Repository articles, newsletters, FAQs, and Council & Board Information System.
Editors and application managers can now perform operations on the site tree much faster because there is a context menu that appears after right-clicking on a page in the site tree. The menu contains common operations like creating and deleting pages. Besides the context menu it is possible to drag and drop pages in the site tree.
