GX WebManager 9.5

Increased user friendliness ramps up innovation development

GX, a leading vendor of Enterprise Web Content Management, presents release 9.5 of its GX WebManager platform. This version includes several valuable additions which will be of immediate benefit to editors, application managers, developers and site visitors. Editors and application managers are provided with a Performance Dashboard, drag & drop-functionality and extended integration with MS Office. Developers get a Personalization API, an extended version of the Content API and simplified registration of their WebManager Component Bundles (WCB’s) at the online marketplace WCMExchange.com.

The Performance Dashboard offers an immediate overview of the most relevant factors for a content management system supporting a high-traffic site. These factors are visualized in the Dashboard, so application managers and IT Managers get real-time information about, for example, memory usage, the number of sessions or the response times of queries or pages. This allows them to optimally manage their website and ensures the availability of the website for the visitors.

Editors and application managers can also speed up production time using the new drag & drop-feature. The availability of several editorial functionalities using the right mouse button also adds to the user friendliness of GX WebManager. Using drag & drop, they can moves pages within the tree-structure of their website. By using the right mouse button, pages can be created and deleted. The integration with MS Office has also been extended to enable easy data imports of text, images and tables. For example, users can now create a MS Word template that sends its content directly to a GX WebManager content type. This offers users a fast and efficient method to import large amounts of data.

Developers are provided with two new Application Programming Interfaces (API’s); the Personalization- and the Content API. The Personalization API enables them to use the extensive options for personalization in the components (WCB’s) they developed themselves and the presentation templates of the platform. The Content API offers the developer both read- and write-access to a large number of content-functionalities. This enables them to add a host of Web 2.0-functionalities, like tagging, tag clouds, discussions and user reviews.

Apart from these extensions, several new WCB’s have been developed. GX and its partners have made these components, which add functionality to GX WebManager, available for download at WCMExchange,com. Examples are:

•    Twitter WCB: adds a Twitter-stream to a page;
•    Flickr Import WCB: Enables the use of Flickr-photos on a website;
•    ReadSpeaker WCB: Easy integration with ReadSpeaker
•    Sitestat WCB: Easy integration of Sitestat Analytics on a website;
•    Google Optimizer WCB: Integration of Google’s tool for testing and optimizing websites;
•    Sociale Bookmarks WCB: Adds social bookmarks to a page.
